Ganesh Chaturthi festival which is widely celebrated with great pomp and enthusiasm in India. Ganesha Chaturthi is an Hindu festival celebrated on the rebirth (birthday) of Lord Ganesha, the son of Shiva and Parvati.
Hindu’s believe that Lord Ganesha bestows everything his devotees desire during this festival. This was the day Lord Siva announced his son Ganesha as the superior to all the gods, barring Lord Vishnu, Lakshmi, Shiva and Parvati.
Lord Ganesha is worshipped as the god of wisdom remover of hurdles, prosperity and good fortune and during the beginning of any new venture.
The Ganesh Chaturthi festival is celebrated for 10 or 12 days, ending on Anant Chaturdashi. Small and large Ganesh idols are bought and kept at homes and streets for 5-9 days.
During this time, the Ganesh idol is decorated with lights and other items. Crackers are burst on the streets during pooja.
After five day’s the idol will be taken in a big procession and will be immersed in the well or sea.
