VLSI Course at Gujarat University

The Gujarat University (GU) will introduce a course on Very Large Scale Integrated (VLSI) circuits from the next academic year 2012. The university will also set up a modern laboratory in Rollwala Computer Centre for the course at an expense of Rs. 5 crore.
GU vice-chancellor Parimal Trivedi said, "Thirty-eight universities of the country had applied to Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai (IIT-Mumbai) for setting up a laboratory and beginning the course. GU has been chosen for the course and now students can opt for it from the new term."

He further said, "We will be setting up a new lab and students will be taught VLSI programming and designing of VLSI circuits. The lab will have latest computers, circuit systems and on-line lecturing facilities apart from some special instruments needed for the practical learning."

Students can attend lectures on-line. Professors from IIT-Mumbai will also visit Gujarat University for imparting practical training. Trivedi said, "It is a matter of pride that GU is second to IIT-Mumbai to begin a course on VLSI. Till now, only IIT-Mumbai was conducting this course and now GU will be the only university to offer this course."
