PRAVASI BHARATIYA DIVAS 2015.......Apna Bharat, Apna Gaurav

Initiated by the then Prime Minister of India Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is held on January 9 every year since the year 2003, to mark the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to India in 1915.

The three day event is organised jointly by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs of the Government of India, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region of India. A celebratory event is held on 7–9 January each year in an Indian city. This event celebrates the achievements of Indians living abroad.

Gujarat is chosen as partner state to host 13th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) to mark the 100th year of Gandhi's return to India from South Africa. The Government of India has seamlessly merged the most significant NRI event in India - PBD 2015 with Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2015.

On January 7, the youth segment of PBD will be inaugurated with the theme Bharat ko jano and Bharat ko mano, with the aim of familiarizing children of migrant Indians with the traditions and history of the country as well as its modern day achievements in different fields.

The event will be Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 8, and President Pranab Mukherjee will honour prominent Pravasis on January 9.

This occasion is marked by special programs to recognize and felicitate NRI/PIO individuals who have made exceptional contributions in their choosen field/profession and provide forum to discuss issues and concerns of people of the diaspora.
